test on Thurdasay

Because of the irregular schedule this week, we will meet on Thursday. AND there will be a test covering the following material:
Macromolecules
Intro to cells
Laboratory safety
Membranes
Microscopy
The test is vocabulary-heavy, so study your vocabulary. There will also be a skills portion to demonstrate your lab proficiency.

Week 4

Laboratory skills.
One of the learning objectives for this year's 12th graders is to develop independent laboratory skills. As a result, we will be completing many laboratory studies. I will be focusing on the essential skills to be successful in a 100-level (101, 103, 105, etc.) university science class.

As a result, being absent is FATAL to a student's success. You cannot do these labs at home.

This week, we are working with microscopes. We practiced make wet-mount slides, proper handling of a compound microscope. These are skills that take practice to master.

Week 3

Homework:
Paraphrasing is the most important science research skill. Paraphrasing is when we take someone else's words (written or spoken) and put them into our own words. Paraphrasing captures ideas and details; it is never a summary. This is particularly important to 12th graders because the graduation portfolio task of "Scientific Literacy" is planned for November. Students will write an original research paper that synthesizes research from multiple sources. Students need proper college research skills to be successful.

Attached here are the paraphrasing homework assignments we have used to develop our skills so far.
